Connect

Connect

Connect transforms a product explainer into a story — introducing Vagaro's built-in messaging feature through a narrative that makes its value immediately clear to both businesses and their customers.

CREATIVE INTENT

CREATIVE INTENT

Connect introduced a new messaging feature within Vagaro — but the product itself presented an immediate creative challenge.

The UI was clean and functional, but visually unremarkable. Nothing differentiated it from any other messaging app on the market.

The creative problem was clear: how do you make a simple messaging feature compelling enough to hold a viewer's attention?

After multiple strategic sessions with leadership, the answer was storytelling — a deliberate choice over a standard screen recording or motion graphics explainer. A narrative approach was chosen to create a cohesive storyline that business owners could engage with and relate to their own day-to-day situations.

Connect was structured around two parallel narratives — a salon owner messaging back and forth with a customer, and a customer booking a service through Connect while showing real-time communication among salon employees — brought to life through live-action skits with actors, collaged together to narrate the full Connect experience.

PROCESS & CRAFT

PROCESS & CRAFT

The project was a true creative collaboration — the video team owned the live-action skit direction and shooting, while I directed the CGI components that created the intro sequence and the digital world of Connect that unified and married the live-action footage together.

The opening sequence came from an unexpected place — the logos themselves.

Morphing Vagaro's V logo into Connect's C using Autodesk Maya deformers and blendshapes created a seamless, momentum-building transition into the digital world of Connect — a brand-consistent entry point that immediately signaled something different was about to unfold.

The UI presented its own challenge. Connect's interface was flat and plain — not enough to hold visual interest on screen.

The solution was glass morphism. Frosted glass frames were introduced around each UI element, transforming flat interface screens into visually rich, layered compositions — and giving the live-action footage a distinctive, modern container to live within.

PROBLEM & SOLUTION

PROBLEM & SOLUTION

Two distinct challenges defined this project: visual differentiation & rendering time.

The first was conceptual — a messaging feature with no visual hook and a UI that looked like every other app on the market. The solution was to manufacture visual interest through motion, morphing logos, glass morphism, and camera-driven storytelling rather than relying on the product's aesthetics alone.

The second was technical.

Glass morphism is visually rich — but computationally expensive. Rendering a full HD 30-second commercial with heavy glass materials threatened to derail the production timeline entirely.

The solution was strategic: replacing CPU rendering with Redshift, a GPU-accelerated renderer, cut the rendering time by 75% — delivering the project on schedule without compromise.

IMPACT

IMPACT

Connect was successfully delivered through a seamless collaboration between the motion and video teams — and currently lives on Vagaro's website as the feature page for Connect.

The impact was meaningful — but measured. Connect was built to inform rather than convert, and it delivers on that intent with clarity and craft.

Sometimes the most important thing a project can do is make something complex feel simple — and Connect does exactly that.
